Portsmouth to Jersey in 2027: a new name for the ship, and twice the pet cabins

Portsmouth to Jersey is open for 2027. DFDS put next year’s sailings on sale on 15 October, and two things change on board: the ship is taking a new name, Corbière Seaways, and from January she will have twice as many cabins where your dog can stay with you.

Stena Vinga becomes Corbière Seaways

DFDS has chartered the ship from Stena Line since it took over the Jersey sea link in March 2025, and is buying her outright, with the sale due to complete this November. She moves to the UK register and takes the name Corbière Seaways, chosen by a public vote in Jersey that closed in July. La Corbière is the lighthouse on the island’s south-western tip.

The changeover is not quite tidy yet. The Jersey Evening Post already calls her Corbière Seaways, while DFDS’s own website still says Stena Vinga as we write this. So you may see either name on a booking, a confirmation or the side of the ship. It is the same vessel on the same route, and nothing about your booking changes. More about her on our ships page.

Twice the pet cabins from January

For anyone taking a dog to Jersey, this is the change that matters. The ship has four pet-friendly cabins at the moment, and from January 2027 that goes up to eight. On a crossing of eight to ten hours, a cabin with the dog is a much better day than leaving it in a kennel. Eight is still not many on a whole ship, so if you are travelling in the school holidays, book the cabin when you book the crossing. DFDS charges extra for pets and has its own conditions, so check those with them.

How the crossing works now

The route runs Monday to Saturday from Portsmouth International Port to St Helier, usually with nothing on a Sunday. The times move with the tide in Jersey, which is easy to miss because DFDS only publishes the current week: in mid-October the sailing left Portsmouth at 09:00 and arrived at 19:00, while in early November it leaves at 07:45 and arrives at 16:00. Check the exact time for your date before you plan the drive to Portsmouth. Our Portsmouth to Jersey page has the rest: the terminal, what is on board and where you land.

The rest of DFDS’s Jersey plans for 2027

  • Poole to Jersey starts earlier. The fast crossing from Poole begins its season on 24 March 2027 rather than 1 May, with 130 return sailings against 105 this year, plus extra in the summer peak. If speed matters more than where you start, it is the alternative to Portsmouth.
  • More sailings from Saint-Malo in April, and slightly quicker scheduled times on some of them.
  • The 24-hour fare stays. Stay a night and come back the next day for the price of a day trip, where it is available.

Booking is direct with DFDS. We have not sailed this crossing ourselves; the 2027 plans come from DFDS as reported by the Jersey Evening Post on 8 October 2026, and the sailing times from DFDS’s own timetable. If you are comparing the two islands, Guernsey now has a daily sailing from Portsmouth: see Portsmouth to Guernsey now sails every day.
